With the recall election just a week old, township and county officials must act quickly to decide how to fill the seats of Ogden Township Supervisor and Ogden Township Clerk for the remainder of the term.
According to state law, the remaining board members must appoint a clerk and supervisor until a special election can be held in November. It was expected that those appointments would be made at the regularly scheduled board meeting Aug. 9.
Lenawee County Clerk Roxann Holloway called the election official Aug. 4 after the Lenawee County Board of Canvassers certified the results Aug. 3. Holloway said she checked with the State Bureau of Elections before calling the election due to the fact that there is six days after an election that a recount of the votes could be requested. And once the election is called the county political parties have 15 days in which to nominate candidates for the November ballot for both supervisor and clerk.
That makes Aug. 19 the deadline for candidates’ names to be submitted to the Lenawee County Clerk’s office for the Nov. 8 election.
Two candidates for each position will be on the November ballot, Holloway said. It is up to both the Lenawee County Republican and Democratic Parties to nominate a candidate for each position.
